Bishop David Oyedepo of the Faith Tabernacle aka Winners’ Chapel in Nigeria is perhaps one of the most controversial preachers in the country.
With dust-raising opinions on tithes, prosperity and more recently, the coronavirus, the man of God has never ceased to pull at the strings of his critics.
Besides his news headline-making lifestyle, however, the clergyman also holds the spot for the richest pastor not just in Nigeria, but the entire world.
Oyedepo who is the General Overseer of Winners Chapel and the Chancellor of Covenant University topped the Forbes list of richest pastors in the world with a net worth of $150 million.
According to Forbes, the clergyman heads the single largest church in the world, which is otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel. Winners’ Chapel has a staggering and impressive seating capacity of 50,000 worshippers.
As one of the main founders of the Nigerian Christian Charismatic movement, he also exerts control over churches in 45 African nations, as well as several in Dubai, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Having been mentored by Adeboye, it is quite clear he took the formula of church expansion up a notch.
Alongside churches, there has also been active outreach within his native continent where his ministry has aided in the development of hospitals, schools and maternity homes.
As to be expected with such successes, two of his sons are following in his footsteps by heading up both the London and South African Winners’ Chapel divisions.
The clergyman is, however, not impressed by any list that seeks to peg his net worth to a particular figure.
After Forbes released their publication of the richest pastors in the world, the man of God concluded that it is an insult to say that he is worth just $150 million
During a recent sermon, the popular man of God said, “Some fella said ‘ok, I was worth $150m.’ I said, that’s an insult.”
“$150m? That’s an insult. I’m worth Philippians 4:19 — ‘my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory”, he adds with a smile.
