Everyone wants a good job with good pay that keeps them afloat. While jobs differ in terms of salary and reputation, the common factor is that people can put food on the table.
Hence, it doesn’t make sense to look down on anyone’s honest source of income. However, when that source of income is centred on substance use, a few eyelids are raised.
This is the case of a New York-based online magazine, American Marijuana, which seeks employees that can review weed products. The company pays these workers thousands of dollars a month just to do so.
The job calls for the reviewer to make unboxing videos and explainer videos about how the products perform and differ from competitors. They will then write “honest reviews and opinions” in the form of a blog.
“This job is 100% for real and it’s an important job that includes more than just getting paid to smoke weed,” American Marijuana states in the vacancy.
“If you think you got the guts to smoke weed every day (plays Snoop Dogg song) and get paid doing it, you might just be the guy we need.”
The magazine claims that every month, they will ship the reviewer a box with different brands and variants of cannabis products, including weed strains, vapes, edibles, and CBD products. They will also be paid up to $36,000 a year, depending on their experience.
Applicants must be 18 or older and live in a state with legal medical cannabis. They also need applicants to send a resume, headshot, social links, an intro video, “and at least 6 streets names, slang terms, or nicknames of marijuana (so we know you’re taking this seriously!”
“This may not be for everybody but I bet you’re interested in this type of work,” American Marijuana said. “I mean, come on, who doesn’t want to get paid by doing what you love?”
