Trigoxin Drug: Is It Real? Does It Really Cause Paralysis?

You’ve probably seen the movie Run if you want to learn more about the drug Trigoxin. Since its November 20 premiere, Run has become one of Hulu’s most-watched movies.

After Run became Hulu’s most-watched original film, Trigoxin and the green pill gained popularity.

Sarah Paulson plays Diane, the mother of a teenage daughter named Chloe who is chronically ill with arrhythmia, hemochromatosis, diabetes, and paralysis and takes a cocktail of pills her mother gives her every day to manage her condition.

However, Trigoxin and the green pill are fictitious names for a real-life drug known as digoxin. Digoxin is a prescription drug that comes in the form of an oral tablet and an oral solution, according to Healthline. Lanoxin, the brand name for digoxin oral tablet, is available. It is also available as a generic medication. Generic drugs are typically less expensive than brand-name drugs. In some cases, the brand-name and generic versions of the same drug may be available in different forms and strengths.

Trigoxin Digoxin uses

Digoxin is available in three formulations with different doses:

Tablets: 62.5 micrograms (mcg), 125 mcg, 187.5 mcg, and 250 mcg
Oral solution: 0.05 mg (50 mcg) per 1 milliliter (mL) dose
IV injection: 0.5 mg (500 mcg) per 2 mL dose for adults and 0.1 mg (100 mcg) per 2 mL dose for children.

Dosage varies according to a person’s age, weight, kidney function, medications taken, and any coexisting medical conditions. Oral digoxin is usually preferred; IV digoxin is reserved for emergencies or when a person is unable to take anything by mouth. Digoxin toxic levels are only slightly higher than therapeutic levels.

The total daily dose for adults and children is calculated in micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day (mcg/kg/day).

Digoxin is typically prescribed as a loading dose for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, with treatment beginning with a low dose and gradually increasing until clinical goals are met. This assists in monitoring for toxicity while determining the best dose for each individual. For heart failure, no loading dose is required.

Once the clinical objectives have been met, the maintenance dose is taken once daily. Young children should have their daily dose divided and take their medication twice a day.

Trigoxin side effects (Digoxin)

Digoxin oral tablet does not cause drowsiness. However, it can cause other side effects.

The more common side effects that can occur with digoxin include:

diarrhea
dizziness
headache

If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. If they’re more severe or don’t go away, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Serious side effects

Call your doctor right away if you have serious side effects. Call 911 if your symptoms feel life-threatening or if you think you’re having a medical emergency. Serious side effects and their symptoms can include the following:

Allergic reactions. Symptoms can include: skin rash, hives, itching, swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, trouble breathing

Changes in vision. Symptoms can include: blurred vision, vision with a yellow-green tint

Mental changes. Symptoms can include: inability to think clearly, anxiety, depression, hallucinations

Neurological problems. Symptoms can include: confusion, changes in behavior, such as hallucinations and psychotic episodes, feeling lightheaded or faint, headache
