CHAPECOENSE have accepted Barcelona’s offer to play in their pre-season tournament next summer.
The Spanish giants wanted to pay their respects to the Brazilian side by offering them the chance to play in the 2017 Joan Gamper Trophy.
Chapecoense tragically had almost their entire team wiped out in a deadly plane crash that killed 71 people two weeks ago.
19 members of the team lost their lives whilst on route to face Atletico Nacional in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana final.
CONMEBOL, South America’s governing body have awarded the side the trophy as a sign of respect after their opponents implored them to give it to Chapecoense.
And now Barcelona have paid their tributes by asking Chapecoense to be their opponents – which has been accepted according to Brazilian publication Globosport.
In 1997 the Joan Gamper trophy was reduced from a four-team tournament to a single match, and last year the Spanish side beat Italian outfit Sampdoria 3-2 in front of 72,000 fans.
