Blogger and Nigerian journalist, Kemi Olunloyo might finally be free tomorrow after almost a month in prison custody.
Nigerian journalist, Kemi Olunloyo who may likely get her freedom tomorrow as a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has fixed
Tuesday, April 11, 2017, for ruling on her bail application.
Olunloyo was arrested by security operatives and charged to court for publishing materials that were purportedly offensive to
a frontline Port Harcourt-based cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.
The blogger had earlier being arraigned at the Magistrate Court before the matter was
transferred to the Federal High Court. The application of her counsel, F.O. Lawal for her
bail had been opposed by the prosecution counsel, David Abuo.
Abua had told the court that in spite of her being remanded in prison custody, Olunloyo
had been issuing threats through her Instagram page over her continued detention.
But the blogger’s counsel insisted that the Abuo’s points in opposing Olunloyo’s bail fell under extraneous matters that were
targetted at prejudicing the court. However, the trial judge, Justice H.I.O. Shamah, fixed Tuesday, April 11 for ruling on the bail application and continuation of hearing on the case.
