Three-year-old twin boys died after they
were found floating in their family’s
backyard pool on Wednesday morning,
according to a police report.
The Suffolk County Police said officers
responded to the tragic incident in Long
Island, New York, at about 8:40 a.m. after a
woman called 911 reporting that she pulled
her 3-year-old son, Nicholas Aurilia from her
home’s pool and that he was not breathing.
Police said the mother performed CPR on
him and also reported that his twin brother,
Anthony, was missing.
According to the authorities, rescue
personnel who rushed to the scene found
the second 3-year-old in the pool.
Both boys were taken to a hospital, where
they were pronounced dead.
It was also reported that the boys slipped
out of their family home while their mother
was asleep.
Their 5-year-old brother was inside the
house at the time and the boys’ father had
reportedly left for work, WABC said.
Lt. Kevin Beyrer of the Suffolk County Police
Department said in a press conference that
the deaths appeared “to be an accident,”
adding that the backyard and pool appeared
up to code.
