Workers who are expecting the Federal Government to increase minimum wage in the country from N18,000 to N56,000 will have to wait longer because the government doesn’t have money to pay for the expected increase in the wages yet.
In fact, the government said it is still battling to raise money to pay all arrears such as salaries, promotion arrears, death benefits, location expenses and transfer allowances which has run into billions.
Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige dropped the hint today while speaking with newsmen after a meeting called by the National Assembly leadership to resolve the lingering cases of unpaid arrears being owed Nigerian workers by the Federal Government.
