The imam who intervened when a van driver hit worshippers in a ‘terror attack’ has spoken about how he protected the attacker from ‘mob rule’.
Mohammed Mahmoud said a group quickly formed around the man with abuse ‘coming from every angle’.
‘Some started to hit him, kicks and punches,’ he told journalists.
‘By God’s grace, we managed to surround him and prevent him from any harm.’
The suspect was yanked from the cab by a furious crowd as he tried to reverse and escape after injuring 10 people in what police said was a deliberate attack on Muslims that was being treated as terrorism.
