Anthony Martial has opened up on his desire to stay at Manchester United as long as possible.
Martial, 21, has cut a frustrated figure at times this season, having often had to settle for a place on the bench under Jose Mourinho, while he was linked with a loan
move away from the club in January.
The France international, however, has started all of United’s previous three games and insists he is happy with life at Old Trafford.
“I love this club, I love Manchester United,” Martial told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League clash against St
Etienne.
“I love the Manchester United fans, they give me a lot and I really enjoy having them backing me. I try to be as good as possible
to make them happy, to satisfy them.
“What I want is to stay at this club for as long as possible.” Martial admits he has struggled at times to reach the standards he set for United during his first season at the club, but acknowledges he is still developing as a player.
Asked why his form had dropped, he said: “It is just because last year I played a lot, I had the possibility to play back-to-back
games. Now I enjoy playing and we have to wait.
“I work very hard and I am surrounded by great players, I try to learn and hopefully next season will be better. Indeed I started
as a centre-forward but even in Monaco I was a winger. As long as I’m on the pitch I’m happy.”
