Some professors from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has been reported to have found cure for COVID-19.
The cure which is reported to have been developed from local plants that are available in different parts of Nigeria will soon be released to the public after successful trials.
One of the leading researchers, Professor Haruna Abdu Kaita noted that when the medication is made public the herbs used would also be made public “for the sake of transparency.”
“We are not businessmen; therefore we would not hide anything to the public. We would disclose all the plants we used in developing the medication. We would do this for scientists across the world to scrutinise our remedy and come up with any challenge; particularly regarding the safety of the medication. What I mean is that, anything we used would be made public for scientific scrutiny.” Kaita said.
The professor however said that the proportion of different plants used in the production of the anti-COVID-19 medicine will not be disclosed as “it would be kept close to our chests as our intellectual property.”
This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday directed the airlifting of Nigeria’s allocation of the Madagascar syrup, reportedly effective for the COVID-19 treatment.
The drug was developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research and branded COVID Organics.
