Two people, a man and woman were killed, and six left injured after an explosion at Astron oil refinery in Milnerton, Cape Town.
The explosion took place at 4am on Thursday morning at Milnerton refinery. However, the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue services responded swiftly and were on the scene within minutes.
“The resultant fire has been contained and the plant is now stable. Our priority is to ensure the safety of all those on site and further information will be provided as soon as we have confirmed the details”, company spokewoman said.
Western Cape minister of local government, environmental affairs and development planning, Anton Bredell said, that the fire that broke out has been contained and the situation is under control.
