Health authorities in the United State city of New York have recorded 100 new COVID-19 deaths in the city which has now become the US epicentre for the pandemic which has spread across the globe.
Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo said that the 100 new deaths recorded in a day now brings the total number of deaths recorded in the city to 385 since the outbreak of the disease.
Cuomo in a statement on Thursday warned residents of New York that the state’s situation was increasingly dire as the death toll surged to more than 1,000 nationwide in the United States.
“Almost any scenario that is realistic will overwhelm the current capacity of the healthcare system,” Cuomo said during the briefing.
Meanwhile, a separatist militia in Cameroon is to down its weapons for a fortnight so people can be tested for coronavirus which has claimed many lives across the globe.
The Southern Cameroons Defence Forces (Socadef) said its ceasefire would come into effect from Sunday as “a gesture of goodwill”.
