On Friday morning, there was a fire outbreak at a laboratory at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital but has now been put off.
While details of the incident still remain unconfirmed, sources at eThekwini Fire and Rescue, who were not given the access to speak with the media, revealed that at about 8am on Friday, they had gotten a callout for a fire on the second floor at one of the buildings in the hospital.
“The fire has been extinguished. No one was injured and rescuers are assessing the extent of the damage,” they said.
In a video posted on social media, one of the employees from the lab was referring to the intensity of the fire, and reiterated that her video was not really expressing how bad the fire outbreak is.
Provincial health spokesperson Agiza Hlongwane was not available for comment at the moment.
