According to reports sighted on UTV’s Instagram page, two police officers barely escaped a gunfight with their lives in their attempt to impede a robbery at a bank in Accra.
The officers deployed to safeguard the Access Bank, Vivian Farm branch in Lashibi, Accra were involved in a gunfight with robbers who opened fire on them.
Apparently, the officers upon being shot at by the robbers realized that the AK47 guns given them had malfunctioned.
It has been reported, however, that the guns were not duly serviced hence the malfunction.
The robbers made away with a yet to be disclosed amount expected to be huge as they took control of the area after the officers fled.
The Police force has been questioned for endangering the lives of the officers by giving them guns that were not serviced.
The heist comes not long after a group of robbers also shot down the MP for the constituency.
According to an eyewitness report, the robbers, numbering about six, shot at the MP’s vehicle when his driver attempted to drive away from the robbery operation.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service on its official Twitter page announced that 5 persons had been arrested as suspects in the case and were due for questioning
