The tour which has scaled through many cities from its inception in Warri, Delta state, to Port Harcourt and Abuja in Nigeria; Accra, Takoradi, in Ghana, Atlanta Georgia overseas, and then to South Africa.
With its booming success in the recently concluded edition in South Africa, Lagos was no exception as the crème de la crème in the society graced the colourful occasion elegantly.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Lagos State chapter was not left out as they were represented by Nollywood’s finest in the persons of Mojisola Oyetayo aka Mama Ajasco, Grace Amah, amongst others, honoured the author during the event as a Matron in Women in Nollywood for her humanitarian works and contributions to the growth of the entertainment industry.
Mama Helen as she is fondly called, gave a resounding relationship seminar that invigorated and illuminated the picture and the possibility of having a joyful relationship despite the challenges that may arise both in courtship or in marriage as depicted in her book.
Following the trajectory of the book, she pinpointed some key nuggets that would yield long-lasting relationships, going through the path of what men and women look out for in each other before and after marriage.
She said, “women desire that the man should be willing to give a listening ear, as they like to share. Respect is another necessity as women like to be taken as priority and treated significantly around others. It gives room for the man to take her opinions and advice and put them into consideration.
Another is support for her career, as women extend the hands of support whenever it is desired of them in the home; they expect same from their man especially in terms of their careers. The man need not be threatened by her dreams and goals but be supportive of it, allowing her to express herself and soar as high as she can instead of clipping her wings to success.
Loving her is also a priority, she said, as women want to be pampered, showered with love and repeatedly reminded how much they are loved. Hitting the nail on the wall, she highlighted that it had been proven statistically that communication is one of the main reasons why most homes break and was one of the basic requirements for a beautiful relationship. She said that this required intentional effort from both parties as men are fashioned generally to not talk much while the opposite is the case for women.”
The men were not left of the equation as she also highlighted some traits they desire to see in their partners. She said, maintaining a good appearance physically is an important characteristic, “carry yourself with gaits and look good especially after becoming a wife to someone”. She stressed that one thing that would guarantee a woman’s appearance is by always choosing to be happy.
Another is for women to be financially independent, as no man wants a liability. This showcases a good example for the female children as they see their mothers as being productive. They also desire to be treated with love as this portrays respect, they love being respected.
She concluded that for couples to enjoy a blissful relationship, there was need for them to invite the hands of God, and practice the acts of friendship, faithfulness, trust, amongst others, in their marriage.
The special guest of honour, the wife to the governor of Lagos state was represented by Ms. Bose Ogundimu, who speaking on her behalf said; “she was sure the book contained a wealth of ideas that will enrich our knowledge and enhance our understanding on how to remain joyfully together throughout our marital life on earth.”
