Unknown attackers attacked a Johannesburg metro police officer.
Malvin Maswanganyi was shot on his way home in Lenasia.
The attackers escaped with his gun and his car after shooting him.
The 35-year-old police officer has since been admitted to the hospital after the incident.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar explained that when Maswanganyi pulled over his unmarked VW Polo in order to speak to a community member on Sunday evening, the attackers came from behind and attacked him.
According to him, the armed suspect shot Maswanganyi in the stomach, robbed him of his firearm, wallet and his car was taken.
His car was later found abandoned close to the crime scene.
“The officer’s wallet was found inside a taxi and the taxi driver who found it handed it over to JMPD officers the following day.”
Minnaar however disclosed that the officer is currently in a stable condition in Milpark Hospital.
No one has been arrested so far.
