Ahmed Iliyasu, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, has approved the dismissal of one Olaniyi Ogunsoro, an Inspector with the Abeokuta Zonal Intervention Squad of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, who was involved in the death of Remo Stars footballer, Kazeem Tiamiyu.
It was gathered that the Ogun State police command, on Monday, tried Ogunsoro, and found him guilty of unprofessional misconduct, thereby recommended his dismissal.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, has since confirmed the dismissal of the inspector.
Ogunsoro, who was said to be on illegal duty last weekend, allegedly pushed Tamiyu out of a Toyota Siena car, in which he was being taken to Abeokuta from Sagamu, after arresting him on suspicion of engaging in internet fraud.
The footballer was crushed by an oncoming vehicle.
Ogunsoro claimed the late the player, also known as Kaka, died while running to evade arrest.
But Sagamu residents maintained that he pushed Tiamiyu out of the moving vehicle along Abeokuta-Sagamu highway.
Meanwhile, another assistant superintendent of police is also under investigation over the matter.
