The United States of America led by President Donald Trump has agreed to allow companies from Russia, China and Europe to continue their work at Iranian nuclear facilities without being subject to American sanctions.
This was revealed on Monday by the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who signed off on the waiver extensions but embedded the decision as one that continues restrictions on Iran’s atomic work.
“We will continue to closely monitor all developments in Iran’s nuclear programme and can adjust these restrictions at any time,” Morgan Ortagus, US State Department spokeswoman, said in a statement.
The waivers were renewed for 60 days, according to the statement.
According to reports, the move by the Trump administration, which in 2018 withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, will allow non-proliferation work to continue at the Arak heavy-water research reactor, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Tehran Research Reactor and other nuclear facilities.
